Start each row with ch5, turn - counts as first open mesh, dc in second dc (where increasing is not required).
Finish each row with additional dc in third chain of ch5 below, or in fifth chain of ch7 below or in specified stitch where decreasing is required.

To increase at beginning of row on 1 open mesh: Ch7, turn - counts as first additional open mesh of row, dc in last dc or dtr of previous row.
To increase at beginning of row on 2 open meshes: Ch10, turn, dc in eight chain from hook, ch2, dc in last dc or dtr of previous row.

To increase at end of row on 2 open meshes: Ch2, dtr in same place as last dc of row, ch2, dtr in middle of previous dtr.
To increase at end of row on 3 open meshes: Ch2, dtr in same place as last dc of row, *ch2, dtr in middle of previous dtr, repeat from * 2 times.

To decrease at beginning of row: Work 3sl st in each open mesh - 2sl st in space of ch2 and 1sl st in dc. Start with ch5, dc in specified dc.
To decrease at end of row: Leave open mesh(es) unworked.

Make two parts of stocking.

Fasten off one part and don't fasten off another.

Connect two parts with help of border.

Border:

Connection Row around body of stocking: Place one part on another. Work first sc in last dc of second part. Then work in open meshes of both parts together counter clockwise from A to B: 2sc in starting mesh, 2sc in side meshes, 5sc in corner meshes, 3sc in last mesh.

Fasten off red thread. Re-connect white thread and work Second Row around body of stocking clockwise.

Second Row around body of stocking: Sc in last sc of Connection Row (this will be right sc of body of stocking). Ch4, picot, ch1, *skip two sc, sc in third sc, ch4, picot, ch1, repeat from * around stocking from point B to point A, finish with sc in first sc of Connection Row (this will be left sc of body of stocking).

Then work First Round of border around neck of stocking.

First Round of neck: 2sc in each open mesh, sc in right sc of body of stocking, 2sc in each open mesh, finish with sl st in left sc of body of stocking.
Second Round of neck: Ch4 - counts as tr, skip two sc, tr in third sc, *ch4, tr in same place as previous tr, skip two sc, tr in third sc - work these two tr together, repeat from * 23 times, ch4, tr in next sc, skip two sc, tr in third sc - work these two tr together, *ch4, tr in same place as previous tr, skip two sc, tr in third sc - work these two tr together, repeat from * 23 times, ch4, finish with sl st in fourth chain of ch4.
Third Round of neck: 2sl st in ch4, ch4 - counts as tr, ch4, tr in same ch4 below, *tr in next ch4, ch4, tr in same ch4, repeat from * 47 times, finish with sl st in fourth chain of ch4.

Fasten off.

Finishing: Iron slightly.

Decoration suggestions: Insert a white ribbon in the open meshes around the neck of stocking. Form a loop on one side of the neck (to hang the stocking on a Christams tree), and tie the ends of a ribbon (forming a bow) on another side of the neck. You may also decorate the stocking with the snowflakes.
